HELLO
Lucy is a writer, teacher and children’s librarian with a lifelong passion for good stories.
Living on the NSW South Coast with her young family and a naughty groodle, Lucy can be found collaborating on writing projects, managing creative film workshops, or getting her Dewey Decimal on in the local primary school library.
Lucy has been known as ‘Loopy’ for a long time. Nobody knows why. Loopy Media used to be her freelance business name but now it’s just a space to talk about words, books and other favourite things.
NEW picture BOOK RELEASED!
Lucy is super dooper excited about the release of a years-long collaboration with local indigenous elder, Aunty Ruth Simms, AM.
Published by Magabala Books, Muttonfish Magic is a children’s picture book that sings the story of young Ruth’s childhood in La Perouse, where thousand-year-old culture and language merges with modern storytelling and the colourful artwork of Dharug illustrator Jasmine Seymour.
“When I first met Aunty Ruth, she was the Aboriginal Education Officer at my local primary school and told the most beautiful stories of going fishing with her mother in Botany Bay, joining indigenous rights marches with her father, or learning cultural shellwork or weaving with her Aunties,” Lucy explains.
“Aunty’s memories are stories from a poignant time in Australia’s history, and we wanted to capture the joy with which she remembered them in writing, with a view to reading them aloud to children.”
In an early review published on Books+Publishing, the book was described as “a special picturebook worthy of critical acclaim and wide educational use”. We are pretty stoked with this!
Hope you love it too.
